Warner Canyon Ski Area

Description

Phase one of two is complete! Just outside Lakeview, Warner Canyon is home to Oregon’s first ski resort, and now mountain bike trails! Everything is being built with adaptive riders in mind. Currently, there are two trails—one green and one blue—along with a skills area with wood features to practice your technique. The trails are still pretty raw and could use some maintenance, but if you’re in the area, they’re worth checking out to stretch your legs and get a little dirt under your tires!

Staging

There is a large gravel parking lot with a flat staging area near the existing restrooms. The restrooms are not open during the summer, but there are plans to install accessible vault toilets in the near future.

Trails

Climb Trail - The service road from the lodge to the trail hub serves as the main climbing route. There is one fairly steep section where adaptive riders using front-wheel-drive bikes may struggle with traction, especially later in the season when conditions are dry and loose.

Lower Green Descent - A fun, mellow descent through a small gully with some trees toward the bottom. A great little lap for the kiddos!

Green Descent - A fun, swooping descent with wide, sweeping turns that make for a great introduction to cornering. Each turn has a flat area on the inside, with no off-camber sections. Designed with beginner adaptive riders in mind, this trail is a great place to build confidence and practice turning skills.

Blue Descent - A faster, more playful descent with tighter turns than the green trail. A few small features offer opportunities to test your skills, with easy ride-arounds if you’re not feeling adventurous. Some mild off-camber sections provide a chance for adaptive riders to practice leaning and build confidence.

A Note on Trail Runouts: Both the green and blue descents finish with long, straight sections that can build speed quickly. To minimize crossings of the ski run, the trail builders were unable to incorporate turns into these final sections. Exercise caution and manage your speed, especially when approaching the ends of trails and trail junctions. Consider it a great opportunity to practice braking and speed control!
