Bearclaw Poppy
St. George, UT
Rating: aMTB3
Description
Bearclaw Poppy is one of the most popular MTB trail systems in the St. George area for good reason. It is loaded with multiple flowy, undulating lines. Most of the trails themselves are adaptive friendly, but a non-accessible gate warrants an aMTB3 rating for the entire area.
Staging
The parking lot is huge, multi-section and all dirt. There are running water bathrooms at the upper level. The trailhead is located at the end of Navajo Dr.
Route
Trails
THIS ENTIRE AREA IS RATED AMTB3 DUE TO A NON-ACCESSIBLE GATE AT THE TRAILHEAD. THIS BLOG NOTATES RATINGS OF THE ACTUAL TRAILS THEMSELVES.
Bearclaw Poppy Up (aMTB2) - Gradual climb that is technically singletrack, but mostly double-track. It is pretty much aMTB1 except for one semi-off camber spot.
Rattlesnake (aMTB3) - Gradual climb that goes in and out of a wash. When the trail runs through the wash it is flat and wide but when it comes up out of it, it becomes narrow and off-camber in sections. Some of these sections can be avoided by staying in the wash.
Stucki (aMTB1) - The short section of Stucki that is used as part of this route is wide open.
Stucki Spring (aMTB1) - Wide open. Beware the ruts at the bottom of each adulation.
Stucki Cutoff (aMTB2) - Home to the Flowmaster Line. Same as Stucki Spring above except for one short off-camber section that adaptive riders with higher injury levels might need a spot on. Advanced riders will be fine. Probably best to avoid the high lines.
Stucki Conn (aMTB1) - Wide open
Bearclaw Poppi Clavicle (aMTB2) - Several rock rolls. Adaptive riders without suspension or much clearance will need a spot.
Bearclaw Poppy (aMTB1) - Trailforks description says “Rollercoaster singletrack.” Choose you own adventure! Several lines to choose from that are all mostly adaptive friendly.
